1966   JAIA was established on the 23rd of June.
1967   Kansai Branch Office was opened.
    New Supplier Member system established.
1968   First visit of an official adhesive industry observation group to Europe.
    Branch association established in the Chubu region of Japan.
1969   Commencement of concerted efforts as an organization for measures to counter mishandling of adhesives.
1970   First visit of an official adhesive industry observation group to America.
    Hot melt subcommittee established.
1971   Adhesive Supervisor System established and first certification testing carried out.
    Adhesive Technology School established and inaugural correspondence course held.
1972   Cyanoacrylate subcommittee established.
1973   JAIA representatives give a presentation at the international symposium held in Canada.
    Application made for registration of existing chemicals under the Japanese Law Concerning the Evaluation of Chemical Substances and Regulation of Their Manufacture
    Request made to Japanese Ministry of Trade and Industry for urgent allocation of PVA monomers.
1974   Construction Adhesive Council and Adhesive Hygiene Council established.
    Japan Adhesives Industry (JAI) standard inaugurated.
1975   Press release on increases in raw material costs published in newspapers worldwide.
1976   Guide to construction adhesives published.
    Second visit of an official adhesive industry observation group to Europe.
1977   Announcement made to association members regarding the health of the marketplace.
    History of the Japanese Adhesives Industry published.
1978   Conference on promoting better adhesive manufacturing methods organized.
    Branch office established in the Chubu region of Japan.
    Posters concerning fire prevention for flammable adhesives created and distributed.
1979   Several press releases concerning raw material information released in line with increases in raw material costs.
1980   Press release concerning fire safety precautions when handling solvent-based adhesives released.
1981   Round-table discussion with industry representatives from all regions held to discuss increases in raw material costs.
    First issue of industry news bulletin released.
1982   First company president conference held.
    Displays held at the Polymer Chemical Exhibition and the Tokyo International Packaging Materials Exhibition.
1983   Official delegation sent to the First International Adhesive and Sealant Conference and presentation given at the Conference.
    Guide to household adhesives published.
1984   Q&A booklet on handling cyanoacrylate adhesives published.
1985    
1986   Inaugural international seminar held in Tokyo.
    Industry association symbol established.
1987   Handbook on using construction industry adhesives published and distributed.
    Supplier Member System expanded. President's Association re-established after a period of lapse.
1988   Official delegation sent to the Second International Adhesive and Sealant Conference held in West Germany and presentation given at the Conference.
1989   Cartel formed in line with the introduction of consumption tax.
1990   Official delegation sent to the Third International Adhesive and Sealant Conference held in Washington and presentation given at the Conference.
    Press release video on adhesives released.
1991   Policy formulated on the introduction of SI units.
    Committee membership system revised.
1992   Fourth International Adhesive and Sealant Conference held in Kyoto and presentation given at the Conference.
    Guide to creating Material Safety Data Sheets for adhesive products published.
1993   Industry committee opinion regarding solvent-type adhesives announced.
1994   First representative meeting held.
1995   Product liability guidelines for adhesives published.
    Guide for handling industrial waste products from adhesives published.
    Industry committee opinion regarding formaldehydes announced.
1996   Cooperation given in the restoration of Angkor Wat ruins (20th--29th February)
    Commemorative ceremony held to mark 30 years since establishment of the JAIA.
    30-year history of the JAIA written.
    Fifth International Adhesive and Sealant Conference held in San Francisco.
1997   Japanese Ministry of Labor published directives to prevent health problems from PVA products, etc.
    Display notifications made for quality of household adhesive products.
1998   Responses to the potential Y2K computer problem implemented.
    Handbook on using construction industry adhesives revised.
1999   Industry becomes a designated industry for employment adjustment subsidies
    Association website created.
    PRTR and MSDS-related laws are proclaimed.
    Test results for combustible gases from nine types of adhesives announced.
    First stage of Angkor Wat restoration completed.
2000   Adhesives industry becomes a designated industry under the Law for Revitalizing Industry.
    Special research committee for maintaining indoor air quality established.
2001   Indoor air quality project established.
    First ARAC held in Osaka.
2002   Japanese Environment Ministry forms its Committee for Investigating VOC Emissions.
    Standardization committee formed to establish measurement methods and standards for formaldehyde quantities released from construction adhesives.
    Provisional standard established for recyclable hot melt adhesives used in bookbinding
2003   Self-regulatory standards for maintaining indoor air quality established.
    Adhesives names as 10th on the list of products which cause accidents from inhalation in the home.
    Use of asbestos in adhesives banned.
    2nd ARAC held in China.
2004   Self-regulatory targets for controlling emissions of VOCs (volatile organic compounds) established.
    Seventh International Adhesive and Sealant Conference held (click here).
2005   New JIS symbol system implemented from 1st October.
    target VOC emission facilities and emission standards revised as a result of partial revisions to laws preventing atmospheric pollution.
    Problems with asbestos-related health disorders intensify.
    Four companies recall products containing talc that includes asbestos.
    Non-formaldehyde registration standards revised.
    VOC emission regulation guidelines revised.
    Research group for investigating release of VOCs from adhesives established.
